What is the weak US economy good for? It is a powerful impetus for enhancing
processes that track the effectiveness of marketing activities. In an era of
tighter budgets, professionals across industries are seeking ways through
which they can measure return on marketing investments. A proven approach to
measurable marketing, Customer Relationship Management (CRM), will be
introduced and specific implementation strategies presented. Attention will
be given to both the value of understanding consumers and the technologies
through which it is accomplished.

The PR Tool Kit: What Works and Why

What do you need to become an effective communicator with the media? It
starts by knowing what the media needs and how to provide it so that it
works to your advantage.

Learn the basics of building an in-house public relations program. Explore
strategic messages, communications tools, organizational accountability and
setting reasonable expectations. How does an effective public relations
program complement your advertising marketing and internal communications
approaches?

We will practice good press releases and learn interview do’s and don’ts.
We will learn what is newsworthy and more importantly, what is not. We
will also take a solid look at crisis management.

Catharine Hartnett has been practicing public relations and communications
in Maine for 20 years. She has served as spokesperson and media relations
manager for L.L. Bean, Inc., PR Director for Unum, and Development and
Communications Director for Common Good Ventures. She currently consults
for both for-profit and nonprofit clients including IDEXX, Hannaford Bros,
Co. Maine Health Access Foundation and Unity Foundation.
