Catharine Hartnett, public relations
Catharine has spent 18 years as corporate spokesperson and media relations manager for several Maine organizations large and small including L.L. Bean and UnumProvident. Drawing on her experience, she focuses on how to promote and manage an organization’s public reputation through the media with an emphasis on building reliable and productive media relationships. Currently, Catharine provides communications support on a consulting basis helping clients develop and implement communications strategies, examine crisis response plans and develop community relations and contributions programs.
Catharine is helping to launch a statewide effort to educate Maine middle and high school students about philanthropy. Forward-thinking Maine foundations and corporations are collaborating on a new initiative – Jumpstart Our Youth – to teach 3200 Maine middle and high school students about the value of hands-on community commitment and the principles of "smart" philanthropy. With $1000 to donate in the school year, groups of student participants in the Jobs for Maine's
Graduates program from more than 50 schools in Maine will work together to design a request for proposals (RFP), review applications from nonprofits, participate in site visits, interview nonprofit applicants, review budgets – and then award grants.
Catharine has an MA in public policy from the Muskie School of Public Service, University of Southern Maine, and a BA in political Science from the University of New Hampshire.
